New Kindle -Gets Jail- Broken

Well, it looks users of the latest Kindle have more than just an official software update at their disposal these days -- the device has also now been jailbroken. That will let you take advantage of the various hacks that have been available for the previous generation Kindle, including USB networking, additional font options, and some exciting screensavers. Bookeen's -Cybook Orizon e-reader

Bookeen's been touting its Cybook Orizon e-reader since CES in January, but it looks like it's now finally, actually nearing a release. According to the company, the device will be available in "mid-October," and it'll boast a 6-inch multitouch screen with "reading quality close to that of paper." That screen is apparently based on SiPix's so-called "Caress touch ePaper" technology, and packs a 167 dpi resolution and 16 levels of gray. Otherwise, you'll get built-in WiFi and Bluetooth (no 3G option), plus 2GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot for expansion, 150 pre-loaded books (presumably public domain), and a web browser that promises "unrestricted" access to the sites of your choice. Still no word on a release over here, unfortunately, but folks in Europe will be able to pre-order the device starting September 25th for €229.99 (or roughly $300).

Google Chrome -Frame -leaves beta, brings -HTML5 to l-egacy browsers

Google Chrome Frame, Google's plug-in for bringing HTML5 and the latest web apps to IE 6, 7, and 8, has reached stable status and left beta. Chrome Frame lets developers of modern sites and web apps support legacy browsers, with the plugin handling the HTML5 rendering when a user's old browser -- ok, old version of IE -- can't get the job done.

Chrome Frame is an alternative to more complex hacks that tend to slow sites down, but the beta tag probably scared some developers away. Well, now Chrome Frame is stable, so load times and crashes are way down. Some fairly big-name sites like DeviantART, HootSuite and github have already jumped on the Chrome Frame bandwagon, and I'm sure more will follow their lead.

If you're already using the Chrome Frame beta, you'll be automatically updated to the stable version, and future updates will happen on the same update schedule as Chrome itself. If you're just getting started with Chrome Frame, you can check out Google's handy intro video after the jump.

Journo -Bluetooth- Keyboard

The Journo Portable Keyboard has been designed to work with smartphones and tablet devices such as the iPhone

and iPad. The keyboard connects up to devices via a bluetooth connection and once connected, provides you with a full sized portable keyboard that folds up to about the size of a phone.
As well as getting the keyboard, you also get a cradle to sit your smartphone on whilst typing.
For compatibility, it supports almost all devices that have Bluetooth

such as iOS, Android and many other gadgets.
Price wise, it will cost $99 when it launches early next year although if you pre-order now it costs $79

Dell Whips -23 inch -inspiron

It's been awhile since we've heard from Dell on the home entertainment front, but don't you worry, the guys in Round Rock have been right on top of it. First up is the brand new Zino HD home theater PC, which like we'd heard is being updated with an AMD quad-core Phenom II processor that's more than capable of pumping out full HD to your HDTV. In typical Dell spirit there's tons of configuration options, including one for 1GB of ATI discrete graphics, a Blu-ray drive, and up to a terabyte of storage. For $299, we're a bit giddy about this little one considering it packs more power than any of those Ion nettops and it comes with a wireless keyboard and IR remote control.

If a large touchscreen all-in-one is more your thing, the Inspiron One can be configured with similar parts -- an AMD Athlon II X4 processor, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5450, Blu-ray, and up to 1TB are all on the list. To us, the real appeal of this one is its 1920x1080 resolution, 23-inch display, which produced some pretty stunning HD playback when we saw it in action last month. Dell's put a lot of energy into its new Stage touch interface, which consists of different tiled applications. It's actually more than eye candy as we're betting those Netflix and CinemaNow tiles will see plenty of tapping. The One starts at $799 and will be available this coming weekend -- but before you yank out the wallet, we'd suggest flipping through the galleries below and hitting the break for a read of the press release.

WokMedia presents a new shelf design called “Between the Lines” The shelf, if you can call it a shelf, is made from stainless steel. It doesn’t look very practical, it takes up the entire wall and can hold some 30 books. Although I guess not many people have many books at home these days

The -Modular- Fish -Tank

Octopus Studios , a furniture and aquarium design firm is offering the Silverfish Aquarium, a modular design fish tank.

Each one is custom made and will cost you $3400. It comes with extensive instructions for installation.

The fish tank is designed for fresh-water fish and can hold up to 60 gallons of water. It is completely self contained, coming with everything necessary to allow your fish to go all over the place for entertainment.

Google -Office -in-Zurich

Seeing such offices makes you wish you were working for Google. They have everything a person needs in there and even more.

They have massage chairs, slides, pool tables and other games, private cabins and much more.

The ultimate PC build using three Dell 2007fp LCD screens combined for a desktop resolution of 4800 x 12000 and two 256MB XFX 7600GT Fatal1ty PCI-E video cards were used.

The CPU is a Core 2 Duo E4300 and ram used was 2×1Gb Corsair DDR2 PC5300.

Phonograph -CD -Player

A 2 day workshop with Joris Laarman. The aim is to analyse a product in its history and function and redesign it.



A CD player was disassembled and the components rearranged to suit the layout of a phonograph. The speakers are put below the trumpet loudspeaker for amplification. The wooden box is made slightly more spacious then the electrical PCB board needed to achieve bass resonance. The laser pointer is shifted to the top allowing the spin of the CD to be clearly shown.
By bringing back a familiar nostalgic form of a phonograph, the design seeks transport the user back to the golden age of phonographs in early 1900s where sound broadcasting had a magical feel?

DMP, a portable music player that supports CD and MP3 files. Use the MP3 player as you normally would, hang it around your neck, clip it on your jeans or place it in your pocket. Otherwise open both sides and insert your favorite CD and you got yourself a CD player my friend. Now that's music to my ears.

Cabbage -Chair

Nendo has designed a new chair made of waste paper from the pleated fabric industry.

The paper is wrapped into a cylinder and cut vertically half way so you can peel it one layer at a time.
The chair was designed for the XXIst Century Man exhibition which will be at 21_21 Design Sight in Tokyo from 30 March to 6 July 2008.

Blackberry -Curve- 8330 comes to Sprint

We had heard whispers about the Blackberry Curve hitting Sprint this month, and it looks like they were dead-on -- say hello to RIM's latest, the Curve 8330, all done up in black. Apart from looking way hotter than the silver version that's made the rounds, you're getting GPS, a 2 megapixel camera with video recording, Bluetooth, "enhanced" web browsing, and the usual suite of Sprint music and TV services. $179 with a two-year contract later this month, says Sprint.
